Great to see our figure from 1988 being used on your podcast. Yes - it's not as pretty as Biasutti's map but still a great accomplishment for three undergraduates (myself, Murray, and Boughton) to have put together and publish. All three of us were taking an advanced course on Physical Anthropology at the time with the late Dr. Kenneth Beals at OSU whose measurable goal was to produce a published paper. I don't remember exactly how the three us decided upon skin color, but I am glad we did. Although I still fondly follow the study of skin color and think often about contributing future research, my focus quickly changed toward bioarchaeology and is the field I continue to work in today.
